00:00:00 Jules: Welcome to three minutes max. Human Skills in the Age of AI. I'm Jules. This week we're swimming in feelings. Monday: Notice. Wednesday: Change. Friday: Let go. Today we're flipping the script. Andre. I'm interviewing you as a human of flesh, blood, and calendar invites. Why is feeling emotions in the body so important?
00:00:28 Andre Ottlik: Well, because emotions don't live in your head. They throw a house party across your whole body. Heartbeat, breathing, muscle tone. Even skin color. That's well documented. Back in 1991 Carlson and Hatfield described sensory perception of emotion. They are hardwired with our thoughts, our mindset and motivation, and influence our reactions towards others.
00:00:54 Jules: Do you have a tiny everyday example?
00:00:56 Andre Ottlik: Well, before a stand up, you feel a lump in your throat. Before you say a word, you notice: I'm tense. That early signal gives you choice: Breathe, adjust your tone, take a moment to organize instead of improvising your way into escalation.
00:01:14 Jules: Okay, what do we try in the next 48 hours? Give us two options.
00:01:19 Andre Ottlik: Well, one tip would be the three minute body and mood check. First, do a one minute body scan. Move through individual parts: your forehead. Jaw. Chest. Belly. Hands. Feet. Just notice. In my experience, emotions always have some kind of movement. They can flow, radiate. Press. Pull. Some people have almost no access to that and need to develop it. Others feel emotions very strongly, sometimes even overwhelmingly. If you want to learn more about that, make a deep dive into the world of neuro linguistic programming. Then write maximum one minute three words that describe your mood. And finally, once again in one minute. Name a situation that might have triggered this mood.
00:02:08 Jules: And if you stick with that technique for a few days?
00:02:12 Andre Ottlik: Well, then you'll spot patterns faster and can act before emotions catch you off guard.
00:02:17 Jules: Okay. That's hard for me to grasp. And the AI option?
00:02:21 Andre Ottlik: Make a voice or text analysis with AI speak freely for one to two minutes about your day. Into a journaling app or a chat assistant with sentiment analysis. Have it reflect your dominant emotion and three keywords. Then do a reality check: Does this match your felt sense? If yes, note it. If not, add your own assessment. You're the boss of your inner world.
00:02:44 Jules: Important. The AI shows tendencies.
00:02:48 Jules: You make decisions, your judgment matters most. Thanks, Andre.
00:02:53 Andre Ottlik: My pleasure. Jules.
